Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use the FSAP?
All SU faculty, staff, immediate family members and retirees are eligible to use the FSAP.
What types of issues are discussed?
A variety of personal, family and work concerns are discussed at the FSAP around issues such as: family/marital, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and other addictions, grief/loss, work stress, interpersonal conflict, and life transitions.
The FSAP can help when the problems of daily living and work interfere with your personal well-being and/or your relationships.
How much will it cost to be seen at the FSAP?
There is no cost for services provided through the FSAP. However, referrals made to outside resources are at the expense of the individual when not covered by other means such as insurance. Every effort will be made to facilitate referrals to affordable resources.
Is the FSAP confidential?
Yes, all contacts are confidential. Information shared during a counseling session will not be released without written consent from the individual client.
How do I make an appointment?
To schedule an appointment, you can stop by or call the FSAP office at 443-1087 during normal business hours. If no one is available when you call, and you would like someone to return your call, you can leave a confidential voice message. Calls are returned as soon as possible in a sensitive and discreet manner.
How long are appointments?
Plan one hour per appointment.
How long can I be seen at the FSAP?
The FSAP provides short-term counseling determined by the specific circumstances of each situation. If it is determined that longer term and or specialized treatment is needed, a referral will be made to an outside resource.
Can I use work time for appointments?
Yes, SU allows employees to use work time. While you don't need to tell your supervisor the reason for your coming to FSAP, you need to inform them if you plan on using work time and schedule at a mutually convenient time for you and your supervisor/manager.
Will my supervisor know about my FSAP contact?
We will not inform your supervisor of your contacts. All information you provide us remains strictly confidential. Nothing you discuss leaves our office unless you authorize us to do so with your written consent. However, if you plan on coming to FSAP during work hours, and do not want to use sick or vacation time, you will need to let your supervisor know about your appointment.
